Gabrielides Architects – The office was founded in 1962 by Alexandros Gabrielides upon his return from Athens where he had studied Architecture and Engineering at the prestigious National Technical University of Athens and began to cause a stir when, despite being a newcomer, he regularly took the top positions in a series of local competitions.

A lot of hard work and many years later he built a team which was not only still full of the same energy and enthusiasm which defined his early career, but together added a wealth of experience and knowledge to the mix.

He has had a very active and fruitful career, and has contributed to the architectural landscape of Cyprus with over 500 built projects over a span of 60 odd years, including the Nausicaa hotel in Protaras which was developed with the help of business partners, friends and family, on a journey lasting over 30 years which began in the late 1970’s.

Over the years, Gabrielides Architects received numerous awards and distinctions in national architectural competitions for major public and private buildings in Cyprus, such as the Electricity Authority Headquarters and the University of Cyprus Dept of Economics.

Formit Architects is a diverse practice based in Nicosia, Cyprus. After some years of working experience in the UK, Spain and Cyprus, Nausica Gabrielides and Daniel Coll i Capdevila, (graduates of the AA School of Architecture in London) moved to Cyprus and began working at Gabrielides Architects. They were involved in the office management and were instrumental in implementing the digital administration of the office. In order to pursue other interests and projects, they set up their own studio in 2014, but continued to work closely with Gabrielides Architects, working out of the same space. GA-FORMit continue to be in the same space and collaborate together on specific projects and competitions, such as being the local architects for the Medical School at the University of Cyprus. FORMit Architect hosts the portfolio of both of these offices here, and their collaborations.

Our team is made up of a small, yet experienced group of architects with excellent knowledge of local regulations, working and construction flow.

Our work varies from small scale designs, such as furniture and interior refurbishments, to large scale public or commercial projects, and yet always truthful to our design concepts. We believe that simple ideas give opportunities to playful concepts, organized and shaped by spatial organizations and functions, material choices and assemblies, location and environmental concerns, but also site-specific building constrains. Teamwork increases our knowledge and contributes experience to our studio.
